We are Plain Greens

Our Mission

Our mission is to catalyse the 4th agricultural revolution by empowering the existing supply chain through accessible aggregated technologies.

Our combination of seamless automation and evironmentaly conscious methods removes complexity whilst advancing towards a sustainable future - Plain Greens. Simple.

With our ultra-affordable solution (requiring less than 100 times lower captial investment then our competitors) we are totally accessible and scalable; enabling almost anyone to grow almost anything, almost anywhere.

The problem

With the global population on track to hit 8bn by 2050, this will put further pressure on an already struggling food supply chain, both domestically and globally. It's not just a case of grow more, crop yeilds are still falling anually, we are already taking too many nutrients from our growing space, requiring more and more chemicals to promote growth and reduce pests. All of which further damages the growing envrionment for future year, creating a compounding problem.

In addition to increasing deterimental environmental impacts, the argriculture industry is already struggling to make growing crops profitable at competitive prices, with big supermarket chains driving down costs and are now reliant on imports.

We need to increase global food supply capacity whilst reducing its impact on the enironment, this is a big challenge and one we believe we can solve.

Let's Have An Argument - Plain Vs Plane

Some of the more astute amongst you may have questioned the spelling of 'plain' within our company name and publications.

Rest assured that this is no accidental, albeit consistent, typo. We have carefully considered which spelling to use and, although you might not agree with our decision, it is atleast justified.

In the table on the right (hyperlink to table? & caption) the differences in the definitions of plain and plane are shown.

The colouring of the text in each cell corresponds to how well the definition aligns with the meaning we are trying to convey and how well it aligns with the company's ethos and product.

Aligns well, almost aligns, does not align.

We do not want to be confused with an environmentally friendly aviation (nor woodworking) company and our goal is to produce a technology that is as simple as possible.

Thinking of the plains of africa evokes images of large open expanses (with lots of room to grow), however "land" is used to refer to "the part of the earths surface not covered by sea" not an artifical platform (unless "landing" is included). Whereas the geometric definitions of plane wholly align with the stacking concept of the technology.

Ultimately plain was selected because; it removes abiguity surrounding aviation, it aligns with the company ethos and evokes vivd scenes of vast expanses - eluding to the capabitilites of vertical farming in general.
